Among the many pieces of software that comprise a contemporary computer system, the operating system is crucial. The mystery surrounding it and the tremendous amount of labor often put into its creation are both indicators of its significance. When you don’t work in the field, designing and building operating systems might seem like a foreign language to the uninitiated. It is my sincere wish that this book will help to shed light on the fundamentals of operating systems and remove some of the mystery surrounding them.
