About the Book:
We are pleased to present this textbook, General English IV, prepared with the aim of helping our students strengthen their language skills, deepen their understanding of human values, and develop confidence in both personal and academic contexts. In a world where communication and character are equally important, this book has been designed to offer meaningful learning experiences through literature, language, and practical writing. The content has been carefully arranged according to the prescribed syllabus and divided into five well-structured units.
Unit I: Goal Setting introduces inspiring life stories and essays that encourage students to reflect on their ambitions and understand the importance of hard work and determination. Through the writings of Adeline Yen Mah, George Orwell, Robin Sharma, and William Hazlitt, learners are guided to set goals and pursue them with clarity and purpose.
Unit II: Integrity brings together short stories and dramatic extracts that highlight honesty, moral courage, and human relationships. The works of K.S. Duggal, Tagore, O. Henry, and Shakespeare help students explore the value of integrity in everyday life and understand how ethical choices shape character.
In Unit III: Coping with Emotions, poems and folk tales introduce learners to themes of strength, resilience, and emotional awareness. Through the voices of Dahlia Ravikovitch, Maya Angelou, William Carleton, and ancient storytellers, students learn to identify and manage emotions positively.
Unit IV focuses on building language competency. This unit revisits fundamental grammar topics—Types of Sentences and Direct–Indirect Speech—presented with clear explanations and simple examples to help students communicate more effectively.
Finally, Unit V: Report Writing offers practical training in Narrative Reports, Newspaper Reports, Welcome Addresses, and Votes of Thanks. These writing skills prepare students for academic tasks, workplace requirements, and real-life communication.
